I took a look at a bunch of old car owners manuals to try and get a feel for the oldschool style owners manuals from the 80’s. I think that it looks pretty good. I most likely will toy with it a bit more later, but all in all pretty good for an hours worth of my time.

I am not entirely happy with the Action Script that was used to render the magazine shape. Perhaps in the future I will find a nicer magazine style action script and redo this image. I would also like to make the Veritech image a little less realistic, more just a line drawing as this is how a lot of old car owners manuals are.

The one was for a Warrior called “cultcontrol” and his product called “77 Laws of Copywriting.” Again I tried to find this product online but unsuccessful. I also did not save the testimonials form each of the clients to add to my site. Somehow they got deleted.

The first person to contact me for a free ebook cover design was a Warrior named Cherub with a product titled Profit with Wordpress. This product was about how to create your own membership site using Wordpress.  This was one of the first designs that I did with the eCover Go Action Scripts.

As I was writing this post I attempted to search for the product online to see if the were still using the ebook cover, but I could not find anything

This product did pretty well, but as per usual I did my truthful style sales page, where I told people exactly how much I made and not some hyped up number.  This led to a low number of sales as people would rather be told lies and have a bit of hope than here the truth.  Damn

Anyways, this ebook cover design was pretty simple and basic, but did the job.  It used the old action script that I had and not the new action scripts from eCovergo.com.  I still can’t recall where I got that script from.

Which should have been an indication that I was destined to be a designer not a writer.

For this design I did some trolling around the Warrior Forum and found some advice on eBook cover design.  I can’t recall who wrote the post but the talked about designing ebook covers much like a magazine.  So I grabbed my wife’s copy of Cosmo and went to work!

Looking back at the design it looks pretty cheesy to me, but then again I have seen some pretty ugly ebook covers design in browsing through tons of sales pages. So even though I know that know I can do much better, its good to go back to my roots and see how I have developed.

And of course to know that I am still making a few better ebook covers than some of the “designers” out there.

The guide brought in a decent amount of income for a while, but I didn’t ever really update it so most others guides surpassed it. As being my first ebook cover design I am pretty happy with it, and I think it still stands up against some of the other World of Warcraft ebook cover designs.

I remember a time when I was a kid, and deciding that my current set of action figures were boring.  It was time to take apart my toys and rebuild them to be even better than they were before.  G.I. Joe got the worst of it.  I remember taking the screws out of their backs and switching out different parts from other figures and making a better looking figure.  Sometimes I would put them together very loosely so that when when Stormshadow got in the way of the Bridgelayer he would explode.  There was a time when Sgt. Slaughter and Stalker’s Kayak met up with a wood burning set.  Sgt. Slaughter ending up  half man, half kayak.

Of course I will never forget the day that my friend’s Dad let us use the blow torch.  No one was safe.  Which brings me to the image above:  Barbecue Matches!

What pyromaniac kid wouldn’t have wanted to his own set of Barbecue Matches.  I swear if these actually existed there would have been way more fires in my house as a child.  I can really only recall 3 instances where the house was on fire and it was my fault.  Only 2 involved matches, and the 3rd was a pretty spectacular grease fire.

Here is a bit of parental advice: Don’t leave your child alone when he plans on making egg rolls and watching Robotech at the same time.

To make the image above a used a pretty awesome combination of Photoshop, beer, boredom, and an action script from eCovergo.com.  The action scripts are pretty bad ass, but I should really focus on using them for actual projects, like making eBook covers for people.  I still will probably also make a set of Inferno (from Transformers) Matches to compliment this set..eventually.
